Cake Moss is not your average queen. In a sea of “pretty,” the self-titled Ratchet Queen of West Hollywood is a paragon of professionalism and resourcefulness. Whether she’s acting, rapping, or slinging chalupas, Moss werks hard and is well on her way to becoming the next darling of drag.

Please introduce yourself to our readers and tell us the types of art-making you are focused on now.

My name is Cake Moss, and I’m a drag queen. My art is based around dance, illusion, cannabis, and helping others.

When did you first realize your calling as an artist and what were some of the major life events that led you to where you are now?

I’ve always been an entertainer––since a very young age––but it wasn’t until I was 21 that I thought of doing drag.

What have been some of your greatest achievements?

Dancing with Miley Cyrus at the VMAs, the dozens of tv shows and movies I’ve done, and of course, my music.

What does success mean to you?

When you have enough of it to actually make a change.

How did you find SOVO// or how did SOVO// find you?

My friend that works for you guys reached out and I said, it sounds great!

Does being in Los Angeles have any influence on your work? What are the positive and negative impacts of this city on your development?

Yes and no. Being the entertainment capital of the world, you have to be constantly evolving and turning new looks and performances without running yourself into the ground whilst doing so. I love LA, but the highs are so high and the lows are ridiculously low.

Along the way, were there other paths you tried that didn’t work out? What did you learn from those experiences?

I was trying to be an actor as a boy but everyone kept telling me I was too short, not thin enough, and that I talked ‘too gay.’

What advice do you have for anyone trying to find themselves through art?

Just try a bunch of different things until you find the one thing you do so well it doesn’t feel like you’re working.

What is your artistic dream right now—a project, collaboration, show, accomplishment?

I already signed an NDA so I can’t say much, but I am working on my own pilot show and it’s going great so far. I can’t wait for you all to see it.

What or who inspires you most and why?

Kind people, my boyfriend (he just doesn’t know that), and also powerhouse entertainers. A good set at a show that leaves you wanting more—seeing the artist smiling, dripping sweat, watching their chest go up and down as they absorb the applause. That’s my favorite thing ever, especially when I’m the one absorbing the applause.

How can our readers support what you are doing now?

You can follow my adventures on Instagram and also get some discounted cannabis in the process!

What do you want to achieve before you die? Do you have any specific opinions on your own mortality?

I want to save the world. I know it sounds outlandish, but I want to save everything that’s being killed and destroyed for money by fighting it with money. And I’d like to help create a few shelters here in LA where the homeless can shower, purchase a very, very cheap meal, do laundry, sleep for a few hours, and apply for jobs on public computers.

What else do you want the world to know?

I want everyone to use their voice more—we have them for a reason. Speak up and help change the things you don’t like to become better. Closed mouths don’t get fed and definitely will fall silent on listening ears.
