Composer, producer, and artist Summer Rona is a triple threat in the entertainment industry. She’s pulled the pages from her own story, turning them into music that is both empowering and uplifting, to prove that not only is it possible to turn pain into purpose – it’s necessary.

Her latest single, “Slingshot” is the kind of bad-ass female anthem that will inspire you to pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and conquer the world. “Everyone has their slingshot moment,” Summer explains. “Something that they’ve been through whether it’s addiction or abuse or an illness or depression – something that has held them back from their true purpose, mission, and destiny. You can take that pain and turn it into purpose. You can take those trials and turn them into triumphs. Whenever I’m feeling down, I just say this is just the energy that is going to propel me.”

To create the music video for “Slingshot,” Summer connected with friends, voice students, and the Global Women’s Empowerment Network. Filmed on the streets of Downtown LA, 25 women and girls joined forces to make up the cast and crew to create the stunning warrior-like images and bring Summer’s vision to life.

In the span of her career, Summer Rona has traveled the world, sharing her gift, her message, and her voice with others. She’s performed the iconic Jackson 5 hit “I’ll Be There” alongside original Jackson 5 member Jermaine Jackson. She’s also opened for the boss, Miss Ross herself, performing with the musician, actor, and son of Diana Ross, Evan Ross. And with the help of Creative Visions co-founder Kathy Eldon, Summer started the non-profit Song Power that connects songs with causes and the inspirational messages behind music with the people who need them most.

Beyond her remarkable talent and selfless desire to help others, Summer is living proof that it is possible to rise above whatever is holding you down, and in doing so, become the catalyst of change in someone else’s life as well. “There’s a cool quote that says, ‘Little girls with dreams become women with vision,’” Summer continues. “We need to teach our younger generation to overcome the trials in life. I went through a lot of grief and depression. I could’ve let that destroy me, and at times it almost did. The sadness was so intense that I almost quit singing, quit life, quit everything. ‘Slingshot’ is a message to myself as well, to just keep persevering and to use that energy and pain for purpose. I feel like this song is inspiring other people which gives me purpose too.”

Summer Rona will be performing a 30-minute set for the epic September 22nd Women in Music issue 3 launch event hosted by SOVO// Magazine. Book your tickets now. This is one party you won’t want to miss.
